In the movie Do the Right Thing, it
was basically all that I expected. This also wasn’t the first time I had
watched it because while we were reading it, I would watch movie clips to help
me understand it better. Overall, I think that the movie really explains just
how bad racism and violence was and how it still is now. There is also a lot of
disrespect that goes on in the movie between everyone, but it mostly comes from
Buggin’ Out. There were many instances where he was disrespectful like when he
confronts the guy who stepped on his shoe. He pursued him with anger and he
voiced it and it was disrespectful. Another instance was when he was in Sal’s
Pizzeria and was sitting and eating and confronts Sal about not having any
African Americans up on the wall of fame. Causing a scene in the pizzeria and
ending up getting himself kicked out. Later on, he decides to protest against
Sals pizzeria and gets a whole group of people that include Radio Raheem and
other people from the community and that leads to the death or Radio Raheem and
the pizzeria to be burned down. I was shocked to see this because there wasn’t really
much problems until Buggin’ Out shows up and causes all of the problems. I am
enjoying this movie because it is interesting to see how everyone copes with
other races being in their community and how they act towards them. An example
is when Da Mayor goes into the Koreans store and pretty much curses and yells
at them for not having the beer he enjoys to drink.
